This new exhibition at the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum explores and highlights the professional relationship between Cristóbal Balenciaga and the photographer Tom Kublin over more than two decades.
The exhibition is curated by Ana Balda and Maria Kublin, while Ciszak Dalmas Ferrari are in charge of the set and interior design.
The photographer Tom Kublin (Zalaszentgrot, 1924 - Locarno, 1966) forged a short but intense career between the cities of Zurich and Paris after World War II.
At the time, photographic art was presenting fashion from perspectives and frames that diluted the innovative and technical skills behind haute couture. It was in this context that Tom Kublin took photographs for prestigious magazines of Balenciaga's designs that showed, without any distortions, the couturier's taste and expertise.
He would also photograph the designs of each House of Balenciaga collection for copyright protection, as was custom in Parisian haute couture. From the early 1960s onwards, his work evolved to include the filming of Balenciaga's collections.
With more than 100 photographs and 5 film excerpts, this exhibition presents a vast and comprehensive selection of Kublin's extensive work for Balenciaga from all these perspectives.
